BRIARCLIFFE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION
MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION
Section 1 Membership in the organization is obtained by the approval of the Membership Committee and, after review, confirmation by the Executive Committee.
Section 2 Membership shall be limited to adult males and females eighteen (18) years of age or older who meet one of the following conditions:
Resident – One who resides within the community boundaries as designated in Article 2, Section 1. (Darby Township 3rd, 4th, and 5th wards).
Former Resident – One who filled the requirement as a resident member of the BAA, BFSAA, or BGAA in the past, has since moved from the community, and has made application to renew or continue membership. This courtesy will also be extended to non-resident sons and daughters of current and former BAA, BFSAA, and BGAA members who have participated in the activities of any of these organizations. Individuals who hold resident of former resident status are subject to dues, enjoy the privilege of voting, and may hold elective office in the organization.
Lifetime – By majority vote of all members of the Executive Committee, an individual may be granted a lifetime membership in the organization due to some extraordinary contribution to the welfare of the community or to the advancement of the organization. Individuals so honored will be exempt from dues, may hold elective office, and enjoy the privilege of voting.
Honorary – At the
discretion of the Executive Committee, a non-resident may be granted an annual
single membership for services rendered to the organization. While holding this status, such individual
will be exempt from dues but cannot hold office in the organization nor enjoy
the privilege of voting. At the
completion of three years of continuous service the individual may apply for a
regular membership. If accepted, the
individual will be subject to the payment of dues, may enjoy the privilege of
voting, and may run for elective office.
January of each year is our primary Membership signup time. We send a mailing to every home in the third, fourth, and fifth wards of Darby Township. This is intended to enable any new residents to sign up. We offer all former members and new members the opportunity to pay their dues for the calendar year thereby enabling them to register their children in our sports programs during the present year. Having paid up dues makes you "active" in our database so that you will receive all of our mailings for upcoming registrations and special events. You can also join and support us even if you do not have children playing in a program.
In 2002, we are proud to boast, we gained 51 more members than 2001. This is a strong growing organization with many new volunteer faces. All members are eligible and encouraged to attend Board and Committee meetings to get involved. We are all volunteers committed to providing the best sports programs for our children.
The Membership Committee would like to thank the many coaches, managers, assistant managers, commissioners, directors, league reps, snack stand, and other volunteers including the Board of Directors, whose time and efforts have gone into the planning, management, and smooth operation of our sports programs. Without this tremendous support we would not be able to provide our children the high quality athletic experiences that we do.
Membership paid before April 30 is required for one to run for office. Nominations for Board positions are taken in September at the Combined General Member and Board Meeting. Nominees must have also attended at least three board meetings or other board specified functions prior to the September Board Meeting.
As approved by the Board of Directors, in December of 2004, the annual dues for the year 2005 are $30.00. Dues are effective until December 31 of each year.
In an effort to help stem the tide against rising costs the board has implemented a policy that establishes a limit on the amount a Resident Member family with multiple players playing multiple sports pays in any calendar year. The Membership Committee is responsible for filtering the database and reporting those eligible for a refund. The cap for 2005 is $150 if you did not participate in a hockey program and $230 if you do participate in a hockey program. Sorry, this policy does not apply to non-residents.
